VaporettoGuide Fares 2026

About

A small, independent guide to a very Venetian word.

Vaporetto Guide exists to answer one question properly — what does vaporetto mean? — and then to explain the boat well enough that you can use it without wasting a morning or a fare.

What this site is

An independent reference site about the Venetian water bus: the meaning and history of the word, how to pronounce it, what the boats are like, what they cost and how to ride them.

It is written in English for visitors who are planning a trip or already in Venice and trying to work out why a boat ticket costs more than a train ticket. It is not a tour agency, a booking platform or an official ACTV page.

How the facts are checked

Fares and route information are checked against ACTV's published tourist rates and current Venezia Unica material, and cross-checked against independent Venice transport guides. Every page carries the date of the last check, because fares change more often than the city's geography does.

Etymology and pronunciation are checked against standard Italian and English dictionary entries. Where a figure is approximate — a typical water-taxi fare, for instance — the page says so rather than presenting it as a fixed rate.

Primary sources

Fares, routes and passenger rules come from the operator. If a figure on this site disagrees with these pages, they win:

  • ACTV — routes, timetables and service notices.
  • Venezia Unica — the city's official ticket and pass portal.
  • Treccani — the Italian dictionary entry for vaporetto.

What it is not

Vaporetto Guide is not affiliated with ACTV, Venezia Unica, the Comune di Venezia or any gondola or water-taxi operator. There are no sponsored recommendations on this site, and no affiliate links at the time of publication.

Found something wrong?

A wrong fare, a changed route, a typo in the IPA — all of it is useful.
